Posi Rear End

Post by JWTurner1951 »

For you all in the know, what does it cost to convert a 1972 F250 from non-posi to a positraction rear rear?

Depends on what type you are installing and if you are doing the work yourself or not.
I just went from an open 3.0 gear to a 4 pinion 3.5 gear. I had the case and gears. I paid a local well known builder to install HIS 4 pinion differential and my gears. He set it up. I took him the gear so I did the work off pulling and installing. I have around $200 in it. It is not a "posi" but a 4 pinion. It will spin both wheels most times IF both are on the same type surface and the tires are the same and have the same amount of air in them according to the guy that built it. I am very happy with the set up. Something to think about. It is also supposed to be a very strong system.

Your rig has a 9-inch?....About $450-$500 plus labor.

Btw, the term "positraction" or "posi" is a Bowtie term. We blue oval boys like to say "Traction-Lok"

I installed one of these. http://www.richmondgear.com/powertrax/noslip.html Around $500 + labor to reset ring and pinion. While I had it torn down I replaced all the bearings and seals for another $100+.

A 72 F250 should have a dana 60 under it, are these prices appropriate for a dana?

The PowerTrax has variations to fit either at the same price.
