390 FE in a boat
I'm trying to get a reverse gear into a v-drive boat;(a gear box set towards the front of the boat the directs the power from the back of the engine towards the front of the boat VA the v-drive back to the rear of the boat out to the prop at the rear of the boat) as there isn't a lot of room between the back of the engine and the v-drive I've been looking at the possibilities of installing a velvet drive transmission, but the cost exceeds this application, so looking into alternatives,I understand that some of the transmission behind the FE engines are bolt on bell housings, my question is did a c-6 ever has the configuration of a two peace transmission, and was there any other transmission that are two peace transmissions that would handle the power of a 390 mildly built,(I think that the FMX but weak transmissions and the C-4 where two peace)was there any other two peace that fits the 390 bolt pattern ??? does anybody make a adopter plate or bell housing that eliminates the torque converter, as in a boat it won't be necessary ???/

I don't know boats, but do understand transmissions...I'm not sure what you are trying to do. Why do you need a 2 piece unit? The C6 has always been 1 piece...Building a pump drive would not be a problem, if you just want to bolt it to the crankshaft & reach into the pump to drive it...
I have built dummy converters for dirt track cars that look like a converter but are direct drive..I don't understand why U need a 2 piece unit???
A properly built FMX (heavy) or a C4 built with HP parts will handle a lot of power.. you are spinning a prop I assume & not a lot of torque is required.....Correct me if I am out to lunch on your idea.......Or fill in with more info.......I will try to help you.. There are others on here that speak transmission too, & the may also speak boats...............Donnie
