Defrost vents

Post by la1031 »

I have a new dash and an a/c kit from factory air. Looks like the defrost vent adapters attach to a factory part that is held in the dash with 2 screws. My new dash did not include the part and I dont see it on LMC's catalog. Anyone have one or can send me a picture so i can head to the scrap yard?

Check out this diagram http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... heater.jpg The cover plates don't have an adapter on them. The hose had a flange built into it, I think. It was inserted from the top of the dash and the cover plate held it in place. You're looking for the hose itself and if you don't have them, cover plates. If the windshield is still in, take a "stubby" Philips head screwdriver with you. Clearance at the windshield is limited.

I believe they're only screwed in on non padded dashes,
padded covers have the grilles built in.

(Correct me if I'm wrong it's been a long time since I took one apart.)

The dash has the vents on it for sure. But there must be a cone shaped piece that my defrost hose attaches to. That is the piece that i am missing. I am headed to the junk yard I guess to see.

Just got back from the junk. The original defrost vent hoses have a thick rubber grommet that wedges into the holes in the dash. I cut them off existing hoses on a couple trucks and now I will adapt to my install kit. Mystery solved!
