I am trying to remove switches for headlights, choke, ignition, etc, etc, to paint dash... choke and lights are not as straight forward as I thought. Is there a trick? Got the light switch "nut" loose but cannot get the square rod loose to take the knob off. The choke looks like it has an allen head to tighten the knob on.... can't see anything on the light switch??
for the light switch you have to reach behind dash and feel on top of switch for a small tag that presses in. Once you find it it might take a stubby flathead screwdriver to press it. Press and pull on knob at the same time. By the way, that was my very first question i posted on this site.
How ironic is that... Thanks for the tip!! This is why I love this site... the ability for someone like me ( my first attempt at a resto) to learn a trick from someone who also asked the same question previosuly, when you were new to this!!
If you take out the gauge panel it's much easier to get to all the switches.
When you figure out how to get all of them out post up.
I've searched here a few times over the past few weeks and haven't found how to remove the choke or the heater control. Mine is a '67 so the heater might be different than yours.

The choke and heater control knobs come off as knob and cable. Disconnect the cable end, then behind the dash there should be a nut (Not sure of size wrench needed) Once nut is off pull knob and cable all the way out. Just remember how cable is routed for easy installation.
