DIY LED Work Light

Post by 68RGR »

It occurred to me that some inexpensive LED flashlights could be ganged together to make a decent, 12 volt work light. I have two of these:

When I switch both on and hold them side by side, the result is pretty impressive. Adding a third flashlight would make it even better. AND, because they use 3 AAA batteries, their operating voltage is very likely 4.5 volts. AND, three times 4.5 is 13.5 - Get my drift? By eliminating the batteries and wiring the three flashlights in series, you would have a work light that could be clipped to the battery terminals or plugged into a lighter socket. If you added a simple frame or other means to mount and aim the light, you'd be all set.

The three lights would cost under $5. Best part would be No Batteries Required.

Anyone tried anything like this?

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)
