Trans leaks when facing down hill
I just picked up my first `70 F-250 Camper Special. Pretty clean, from original owner with 68k miles. After a day of owning it, I'm seeing a trans leak from bell housing, but only when pointed down hill. Should I assume its the front pump shaft seal, or could it be something else? Could fluid be that high that it submerges the pump shaft/seal? Leaks pretty bad too.

Re: Trans leaks when facing down hill
Interesting. This will be my first post, but I'm experience the same thing as you. So maybe someone with more experience can chime in for us!
I own a 1968 Ford F250 - 360 FE - 2WD C6
At first it appeared as if the leak was coming from the pan seal because I would wipe it clean and watch it trickle out from the pan and towards the bell housing. So I changed the pan seal to a new rubber one and the vacuum modulator while I was at it. It was shifting very early.
I cleaned everything very well and filled the trans to half way on the dipstick, while running and in park. Seemed all good.
I left the truck facing downhill overnight and found drops in the morning. This time I pulled the inspection plate, but found the flywheel to be very dry, no trans fluid splattered all over it. I've done torque converter and seal changes on many vehicles and I found usually when they leak from those parts everything in that area is soaked in fluid.
So my question is. If the flywheel is dry, it's probably not leaking from that area? Or?
Thanks all!

Re: Trans leaks when facing down hill
if the torque converter area is dry and the pan gasket and modulator o-rings have been dealt with then its time to look at the shifter shaft. c6's are fairly notorious for leaking atf out of the shifter shaft bushings.

Ah. Probably should have done that when the pan was down. I'll keep an eye on this, as the PO replaced the column shift with a B&M Floor Shifter.
Thanks.
