Guys, I have a 69 F100 with a C6 transmission working off a column shifter and was wondering if there is anything I can do to make the gear selection more precise? It all feels quite sloppy and also possibly not correctly aligned. I'm saying that because I've now had a couple of occasions where I've blipped the accelerator pedal when the selector has been in Park and the truck has tried to move backwards....luckily I only light pressed down on the gas and the foot brake was on. But when that has happened and I've gone to check where the shifter is, it has been in the Park detent, but obviously still engaged in Reverse somehow.
I'm thinking there is too much slop somewhere in the linkage so the lever at the transmission is not quite keeping up with the movement at the column shifter...if you know what I mean. I now push the shifter over as far to the left as possible and then back over and push it forcibly back into the Park detent. I've also had it where it has dropped into the Drive detent but has still actually been in Neutral. Well, I've lived with this for a couple of years now, so not a huge deal....but if there is a relatively straightforward fix that would be great.
C6 gear selection very vague

Re: C6 gear selection very vague
mine was the same way shifter was all over the place I put in a hurst quarter stick shifter(probably over kill) and it works great no problem slipping out of gear. I would assume the problem is in the column because the lever on the c6 was fine. basically I bypassed the problem by buying a new shifter. sorry I cant be of more help. fyi the new shifter went on the floor or really over top of the transmission
