C6 filter. Change

Thinking about changing the fluid and filter on my C6. Anything I need to concider before I start?

To make the fluid replacement easy drain the fluid into a drain pan and measure how much came out. Fill with the same amount which should get close to full. Also torque for the filter bolts is 40 inch lbs. Other than that it's pretty straight forward.

In my '67, I couldn't do it because the C6 was right above a cross-member, so I couldn't drop the pan to clear the filter. I ended up changing the fluid, but not the filter.

Also, as Mark pointed out, the torque on the filter bolts is measured in inch-pounds, not foot-pounds, so you might need a new torque wrench.

Final note: make sure you know where your wedding band is BEFORE you start working! It probably took me an hour to find it, once I realized I wasn't wearing it (sitting safely on the [censored] window sill).

Don't forget to drain the torque converter.

Draining the pan and torque converter will require 11-12 quarts to refill. Adjust the band while you're under there.

So if I can tag on here. 71 f250 360. Auto. I am assuming its a 3 speed c4 where is the markings for it.

I want to do a dump and fill only. The pad is above the crossmember so I dont know if I can actually get to it. one side bolts hard to get at. I assume there is no drain plug?

360 will have a C6 not a C4.
No drain plug. Get a flex socket if some bolts are difficult to access.
