Factory grill guard

Post by Busboy »

I bought what I hope is an original grill guard off of a 68 that is in perfect condition. Does anyone have any pics of one so I can verify?

This is about the first factory one I know of , in the mid 70s,
although they'll bolt on to the earlier ones.

Well that didn't post the picture you'll have to search the '77 brochure.

It appears identical to every photo I've been able to find. Also there are Ford part numbers all over them. So yes.

Pretty sure that's not a factory or dealer optioned one. My buddy has one on a '64ish F-650 farm truck and it has a pretty basic look. It also has supports that go through the grill to the frame behind the radiator. I've pretty sure there was a Ford script somewhere on it but it's been years since I looked at it.

Here is the factory grille guard I have, complete with supports that go through radiator support and grille.

and here is a picture of what one looks like installed.

There is one other style of “factory” grille guard, I will have to see if I can’t find a picture. The term “factory” should be used loosely though, because I believe the guards were dealer installed.

Found it!

This is the other style “factory” “period correct” grille guard. I believe these ones are more rare and are worth more, but I personally don’t think they look as tough.

Yeah I don't see that guard guarding anything. It looks like it would fold under a strong wind.

I agree with that! A squirrel would probably dent it...

BJ- I like how that first guard looks installed. Your's is in nice shape, I am sure it will clean up easy. It doesn't look too complicated either, I would guess a local metal fabricator could make one without too much trouble. I might have to look into getting/finding/fabricating one.
