Slip yoke cap? 1971 AOD

Post by BayStYAt »

I am replacing the u joints and when I removed the slip yoke, I removed the end cap that was halfway held in with a permatex looking material. Is this normal? I removed the cap completely and clean off any old permatex. Do I re permetex back on? is there a clip I need?

It needs to be oil tight.

Awesome Thanks. Is there a reason why it does not have a hole in the center for pressure to release?

Got it. That explains the Trans fluid slung ALL OVER the underside of the truck.

Thank you sir. I assumed the out put seal shaft was leaking. turns out it was that cap not completely sealed.

I'd weld it or replace the yoke with another. Odd that it popped loose. Any signs of the output shaft hitting it since you said it was an AOD install?

no signs of hitting. It looks like the Previous owner just permetexed it on. There is a ressesed grove in the yoke so I was able to tap/punch the plug in the grove. Its solid now

thank you. No more oil slinging everywhere.

I have found some strange things on this truck, over 40 years old things get weird
