Beware of Rock Auto
I normally buy my parts from the local auto parts store but for performance parts or other goodies I use Summit Racing. I looked for a specific part on Summit's website and they didn't have it in stock and the estimated delivery date was the first week of January. I did a Google shopping search and Rock Auto came up. I've never bought anything from them so I thought I'd give them a try because the item was "in stock" and would ship immediately. I normally use a web based email address when ordering online but I screwed up and used my primary email address. Within one day my email was blowing up with spam from alphabet jumbled email addresses. All of it was home related stuff; window replacement, home loans, time share, solar, house warranty, etc. Non-stop now for four days. The only other thing I order with my primary email is coffee and I've never had a problem with spam ordering from Keurig.
It gets better. The parts arrived today. I ordered Moog tie rod ends and Monroe shock absorbers.
Moog is Moog and comes in factory boxes. The shocks arrived in plain wrap boxes. When I took the shocks out of the boxes I could tell that the factory product labeling stickers had been peeled off of the shocks leaving the sticky adhesive behind in a rectangle shape. Upon further inspection it was obvious that the shock boxes had been opened and resealed with a glue gun. I have no idea what brand shocks were in that box and I've never seen quality brand shocks without factory product name stickers. Clearly, bait and switch. The shocks are already on their way back to Rock Auto and I sent them an email to alert them.
I'm curious to see how they respond.

Re: Beware of Rock Auto
I've had excellent luck with Rock Auto. They are a closeout wholesaler so sometimes this might happen but the prices are so good that it is worth overlooking for me.

Re: Beware of Rock Auto
I'd always hesitated ordering from them due to the price, (kind of stated 'made in china").
Customer service phone call to complain about quality?

Re: Beware of Rock Auto
They have mostly domestic close out surplus. They also have overseas stuff. The point is it says what brands are available. It's the same story at Autozone, Oreillys etc.

Opening a sealed box, removing manufacturer labeling and reboxing is fraudulent business practice.Busboy wrote:They have mostly domestic close out surplus. They also have overseas stuff. The point is it says what brands are available. It's the same story at Autozone, Oreillys etc.

Why would anyone remove manufacturer stickers from the shocks?Ranchero50 wrote:Never had a problem with them, wonder if BBF didn't get someones "return"?
If I don’t get compensated for my purchase price and shipping I will file a complaint with the BBB and the FTC.
The ball is in their court. I hope they do the right thing.
They will have the shocks so they’ll be able to inspect the tampering.

Re: Beware of Rock Auto
I've used them for many years with one issue: the wrong part was in the right box. Sent it back, they paid shipping, I got the right part in the right box three days later.

You are probably right. Selling re furbed goods is the new world order now. Laws allow them them to do that now. Customers be damned.BobbyFord wrote: Opening a sealed box, removing manufacturer labeling and reboxing is fraudulent business practice.

Bobby you can also file the complaint here, (as it appears you ordered them from the net)."BobbyFord"]Why would anyone remove manufacturer stickers from the shocks?Ranchero50 wrote:Never had a problem with them, wonder if BBF didn't get someones "return"?

These guys are like my pitbulls on cats when it comes to fraud on the internet.

I had to file suit against Paypal a few years ago and the IC3 division was the only way I could resolve it to my satisfaction.
Agreed stop them before any other "discount" parts suppliers get the same idea they can get away with it.
