70-72 Tailgate Insert Panel

I have done a fair bit of searching to find the answer and so far have come up empty.

Does anyone know if the F O R D letters on the tailgate panel are the same as the hood letters? Mine are pitted pretty bad and would like to replace them. Doing the whole insert panel restoration including the woodgrain and would like to start off knowing I can replace the letters. I took them off and put them up against the hood letter locating holes of my '67 and they were different. Got to thinking that all FORD bump hoods had the same locating holes but just with different surfaces for the lettering. And if that is true then tailgate and hood letters are different. Tried to find new tailgate letters on DC but none available. So.... where can I find new letters or do they even make them ?

Are you talking about the letters on the Ranger XLT tailgate panel? The hood letters are different in the 1967-69 trucks vs the 1970-72 trucks. You can see them here about the middle of the page: http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72 ... 0%7C%C2%A0

The 1970-72 FORD letters are larger than the earlier ones. The FORD letters on the Ranger XLT tailgate panel look like the ones from the 1970-72 hood emblems, but I'm not sure if they are the same? Maybe someone else can chime in on this that knows for sure. I see the hood FORD emblems on e-bay often. Try DOTZ-16606-A that is the part number for the F, DOTZ-16606-C is the number for the R, so I assume that O is DOTZ-16606-B, and DOTZ-16606-D is for the D letter.
