I'm trying to remove my automatic transmission steering column thru the cab.The seat and steering wheel are removed.
The column is disconnected from the rag joint, all plates at the firewall are removed, and the bolts on the u'side of the dash are removed.
But when I try to pull the column out, the shifter arm at the bottom is too long (by 1/4-3/8") for the "oval" opening in the firewall, and catches on the outside of the firewall
What am I missing? Do I need to dismantle the column, and remove the shaft & shifter column thru the engine bay?
Any advice/experience very welcome.
Thanks Jeff

Re: Automatic Steering column removal
It is a very tight fit, but shifting the selector will find the sweet spot, someone got it in there, and the factory installs them as a complete unit.
