When
Ford started using a dual-pot brake master cylinder in 1967
to separate the front and rear brake circuits, they
incorporated a brake pressure differential valve which was
only used on drum/drum applications. As the years went by
and Ford continued to fine-tune the device as front disc
brakes were introduced, they incorporated a stand-alone
metering valve to be used in conjunction with the pressure
differential valve, and then finally introduced a
proportioning valve. Ford combined the pressure differential
valve, metering valve and proportioning valve into a single
unit called the 'combination valve'.
Throughout the evolution of this item, Ford continued to
call it a pressure differential valve and listed it in their
parts catalogs as such under the same group number...even
through the late-'70s.
