Steering Wheel resto
I picked up a three spoke wheel from a '67 to put in my '71. It had only one bad crack. I filled the crack with JB Weld and I painted it with Duplicolor flexible bumper coating. How do you think this will hold up? It looks good enough...I was wondering if anyone has tried something similar. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you got it handled. Been at least one thread on crack filling/wheel restoration. Some open the crack, install an epoxy or other body filler, shape, sand, epoxy again, sand, repeat if needed, prime (maybe in not the exact order), paint with 3 to 6 coats of good paint, then clear coat. I think Bondo exactly has a kit. Other also?

I would say that should do it. Let us know how the bumper coating holds up after a year.

I'm going to try powdercoating mine. I have a friend that works at a shop, he says he's done similar materials. Hes baked plastic, fibreglass, wood, etc. You name it...hes tried it. I have a powdercoater and an extra wheel, so What the heck!
Made my first million.....too bad it was mistakes..not dollars! Now pass me that crescent hammer.

I did exactly the same thing. Lasted about 6 Months. Looked great after
I did it. Like new. The old plastic seems to keep shrinking. I'd do it again.
Go for it. It's really nice to have a new wheel. I'm gonna pull mine and
try again with some 'marine' epoxy.
Good luck with it. Take some pic's if you can of before and after.
I'm gonna do and post them here. I could guess theres other guys
on here that are wondering about fixing theres.
I like the 3 spoke wheels better too.

jake11 thats a good link. I like the wheels, theyre like the orig. F100
3-spoke wheels in that the spokes are not "equi-distant" like the Grant wheels, (ie., the look-through part of the wheel in the straight ahead position gives you the correct view of the guages.)

Hillbilly,
Tell us about your powdercoater. I've done a little research on these things but they all look pretty expensive. Do you have an oven or the ambient light deal? Also, what does your rig do to your electricity bill? Thanks.

I'm gonna order a blue one and see how it looks. I'm from the
'metalflake' generation so I'll order one of those. Let ya know how it
looks when it turns up.
