My new crew...now I collected them all

Post by dablack00 »

I just brought home my crewcab last weekend. It is a 70 crewcab that was originally white w/ the ivy green interior (anyone else have that...I would like to see pics). Someone put 71-81 crapmaro seats in it, so they are being pulled out this weekend and factory buckets are going in. It has PS and PDB w/ the 360/C6 combo (originally 4 speed), dana 60 w/ 3.54 gears. The motor is just about dead. Driving it home (5 hours), if I came to a stop sign or light, the oil pressure would go to about zero. I would put it in neutral and keep the RPMs to 2k and the oil pressure would be ok.
The first picture is of my driveway right now. My daily driver 68 cougar and 71 F100 short bed are closest to the street. Next the crew, then the 72 camper special longbed and in the garage is a 68 short bed. So I have a crew, longbed, and two short beds. I'm almost done parting out the longbed, so I will only have three shortbeds left (68 in pieces, 70 CC, and my DD 71).

Now that I have you really hating me, I will make you feel better. The crew's floor is shot and so is the inside of the bed. It also has a couple of spots along the drip rail. It is going to be lots of work! On a good note, I got 12mpg on the way home w/ the worn out, out of tune 360 w/ 3.54 gears. I think I'm going to keep the drivetrain stock and put in 3.00 or 2.7ish gears for better highway RPMs. I want to cruise in the crew.

That is cool! Some day I would like to do a crew cab.

I would not go past 3.25 gears. You will have a hard time getting it rolling with 3.00 gears.

I'm not sure what drivetrain I'm going to go with or what rearend. I don't think I will ever get over 13 or 14 mpg w/ a 360/C6 combo. I'm thinking 302/T5 just like in my cougar. It would be cool to have matching drivetrains and the overdrive w/ the 3.54 rear gear on the crew would give good MPG. I would like to get 20 mpg but I'm not going to hold my breath. If I could get 18 mpg w/ a 302 and T5 then I would do it.

Thanks guys. I wanted something that I could take the family in on trips. My wifes car just get too many miles put on it. I much rather take the crew if I can get it to get 18 mpg. I'm thinking w/ a 302 and T5 I should be able to do it.

thanks

Are you going to haul a camper or anything? A 302 would struggle with that. They are not much for low end torque.

Have you thought about a 300/T5 ?? ;)

I have thought about a 300/T5. I commented in your thread that I eagerly await you putting yours in. Yes, it will make more torque, but I might want to go EFI later and it is just too easy to go EFI on a 302. Plus, I just can't go without a V8 sound. My 71 short bed that I drive everyday is a 460 and I love the rubble. I can give up the power of the 460, but I can't give up the V8 sound.

I'm never going to haul anything w/ my crew so I'm not worried about it. Plus, even if I did, I live around Houston and it is FLAT down here.
