LED taillights

Post by dolinick »

Instead of just putting a bright led bulb instead of
the regular bulb in your taillights I thought about
an array of LEDs like they have on new cars.
I thought it would be cool to have the entire area of the
lense filled with bright leds. I wonder how many leds it would
take to draw the same amount of current as a standard
bulb. You could put a LOT of LEDs in there.

Perhaps you could build a tallight by cutting some red
or clear reflector material (or black see thru plastic)
and make an array of LEDs behind it and secure them
with epoxy. Blacking out the tailights might be nice
especially if the truck is painted black. You will only
see the red taillights when your lights are on or you
hit the brakes.

does any company sell anything like this already?

It depends on how it looks lit up heep.
I think I counted about 50 leds.
I'll probably want about 200 or more
on my taillights.

I saw one design where it had a plug
the shape of the base of the old bulb
and a square array of leds connected with
a wire. It would be easy to install something
like that without rewiring the tailights on
the truck.
