i got wood!

Post by 1971ford »

when i got my door, it had a couple peices of 2x4 in the bottom of the door, jambed between each side. whats up with that :?

my dads guess is that it is to obsorb water, so the bottom of the door wont rust.

my guess is that it is to keep the bottom of the door from denting, since i have seen around 5 doors with the same bottom dent. i agree fully with my dads guess too.

what is the real reason?

i think i may stick some wood in all my doors if its a good idea.

i never heard of that. i figured if the wood was just laying in there it would have been to hold the window up. but if it was jambed to each sdie i dont know. the water should run out the bottom of the door . through the factory holes.

its probably there to keep the window regulator from coming off the rack. it probably has a few teeth wore down and the wood keeps the regulator pinion off them so you can still roll it up

doors are borin to take apart. the wing window is the tricky part. you have to kind of spread the door open at the window slot to get the wing to come out. because of the bracket on the bottom of the wing tack.

I was thinking it was keeping something from rattling in the door making noise but the track thing sounds good...
Note: having it in there getting wet is BAD it will hold the water longer then letting it drain out the drains in the bottom so it will promote rust where it is touching. :hs: no good will come over time...

Ryan,

Lotta' hesitation here too on opening this thread.

Thunderfoot is right here. You don't want anything inside that door that would hold moisture, (it would promote rust).
Pull it out and repair the window track properly.

i dotn think thats what they mean. they mean you are so proud of your trucks that you always post lots of pics of them. but that not always a bad thing. some guys dont post pics at all so it is sometimes harder to imagine what they are talking about.

I bet the wood was used as a brace to hold the window up. People can do some weird repair work sometimes.
