father and son project (updated 2-9-08) lots of pics!!!!
Hey everyone, im new to the site. im 23. My dad is also a member whos screen name is highway maintainer. We started our project which is a 1967 swb f-100. A guy from our chuch gave it to my dad ten years ago and its pretty much sat since then. I was younger and didnt really know much then. The past coulple years i was in the middle of a project of my own, a 1997 nissan pickup, custom frame, air bags all that fun stuff, but I had to sell it. So now me and my dad finally get to start this truck. Its a 67 but the bed and hood are from a later model with side marker lights. Its is pretty rough shape, but im looking forward to the challenge. enough talking, here are some pics
About to come home finally
We didnt get the camera out till after tearing it apart some, but here is what were working with. were starting on the cab first, and all sections of the truck will have pics at they come
The cab mounts that are on this thing are the jcwhitney one that slip over the factory ones. as you can see, the previous owner torched the old ones off. dont worry, this is all getting replaced.
Here is the bracing I did in the doors so make sure while I cut everything out, everything stays where is should.
Heres a pic of my last project. I never got around to painting it before I had to sell it. I dont plan on goin this extreme with the ford, we just want a cool clasic truck
We have a order of a whole bunch of sheet metal coming in this week, so be on the look out for some progress pics soon.......

re: father and son project (56k beware)
WOW!!!!
That is going to be a project.
Keep us updated as you go along.
My '72 cab is almost that bad, i don't have the patience to rebuild an entire cab. Thats why a picked up another one with a lot less repairs to make.

you are joking I hope. At 23 you dont need to be wasting any time on trying to ressurect that truck. It is gone. Strip it of any useful parts and start looking for another project. (Im hoping you knew that already).

Re: re: father and son project (56k beware)
ok, if im going to start getting a bunch of negative, usless feed back, then why bother even being part of this site. No im not joking. Ive had enough projects and worked with enough vehicles to know exactly what im getting into. what does my age have anything to do with this truck. I enjoy working with metal and challenging myself. Me and my dad enjoy working on the truck together, and we got it for free. The work and fabrication that went into my building my nissan is less than what im going to need to do to this truck. the underside of the cab from the floor pans back is prefectly fine. rear cab mounts are in great condition, roof around the drip rail is solid. give me a month and our cab is gonna be better than any cab your gonna be able to buy for a new project, and cost way less money, so please keep your annoying and aggrevating comments to your self. there is always someone on every forumjzjames wrote:you are joking I hope. If you really wanna rebuild ALL of one, that is a good candidate. However, as plentiful as these trucks are, you might consider finding another cab that has a bit more good metal.
That said, good luck to you. Welcome to the site, and keep us posted.

we already considered this, and were sticking with what we have, because when im done, it will be better than any cab i will ever dream to find around here for any price i would pay for another truck. cab corners, door pillers, floor pans, and cab mounts will be in this weeek. may make my own rockers. just stay tuned

While I agree with the opinion of starting with a cleaner body, I gotta give a big hats off to anyone willing to tackle such a project!
Great work with the bracing. Please keep us posted... would love to see how/what it takes to repair one like that. Might make the rest of us stop and wonder how many good fixers we've passed over just cuz of a rough body

Hey Nick... wanted to say "Good Luck". A lot of folks here have seen a lot of projects done, and this one probably takes the cake for "least amount of metal to start with."
However, that's no reason to be negative. I commend you for your ambition of taking on such a big project, and if anything the fact that you and your dad are doing it together will make it that much more special. Definitely restore it as a "classic truck" and not a hooptie machine, because you'll appreciate it more in the years to come.
Best of luck with your project, and please keep us posted! We love pictures here, and you'll find no better source of unbiased help, input, and ideas than you will here.

sorry that my comment came off sounding negative and aggrivating.
Have fun. Wear some gloves.
