'68 F100 Ranger Column shift knob question.

Post by 03rangerxlt »

Does the shift knob on the column shifter just press fit onto the shifter, or is it supposed to thread on?

it is pressed. there are spines on the shifter. don't ask me how to get the knob off without destroying it though.

are you talking about the shift lever and the collar? if so you have to pull the steering wheel and then i believe you pull off the turn signal switch if you can get enough slack out of the wires, if not you have to cut the wires at the bottom of the column and then fish them back through after your done. its pretty self explanatory once you get the steering wheel/hub off. i learned this the hard way because my shift collar was broken when i bought my truck. oh by the way i have a 67 f-250 so it may be different depending on year and models and whatnot.

hope that helps

Aight. My ass became a drunk ass making a special shifter column knob for my '68 using a shift knob ordered from LMC and a .50BMG round. Hopefully will beable to get a pic up soon-ish.
