I was steel wooling various chrome, and alum. bits over the weekend and it was working so well that I started scrubbing on the hinge caps for the bench seat. They looked like aluminum, but as I started scrubbing it looked like I was just rubbing paint off.
Are these plastic?
Thanks

Shoot. Well, I know it won't look super, but I'll probably get some "chrome" spray paint and then clear them, knowing that they'll look like they were painted.
Thanks for the tip on locating them though.

How do those hinge covers attach to the metal hinge? Was this an option for these trucks? I have a 68 and I have no holes that would allow these covers to attach to.
I think it was a ranger option. I'm not positive though. I believe the screws are sheet metal screws. They look like the same screw used to hold the headliner trim. I don't think they have fine machine threads, so you won't have to tap the holes. All this is going from memory. My seatin the 72 is swapped now, so I can't go see! Hope thishelps.
I just took one of these seats out of a 72. There are two screws holding the piece in place, but the holes on the seat back are slightly recessed as if they were machined or drilled in. Doubt this would matter much in the fit though.
