relay wiring

Post by satashooter71 »

i have a 72 f100 and i cannot figure where a wire goes of the starter relay. it is on the hot side. it has an inline fuse but there is no other wire from this. also does the alternator only have two wires that hook up to it. thanks for the help in advance. P.S. the reason i ask is when i put the ground and the hot on the battery after pulling all the wires through the firewall to paint, when i put the hot and ground on the battery the one wire in question on the relay began to smoke so i jerked the battery wires off.

. this picture i just uploaded shows how short the wire is and it appears to be an inline fuse, but what does it go to?

www.fordification.com/wiring.htm look there first. other schematics are almost the same. also oyu want to take into account if you have lights or guages in your instrument cluster. the wiring to the alt is different for the two types of guages.

i do think this goes to some lights or something aftermarket. i think my real problem is i just read that the neutral switch on the column needs to be attached before it will start!

On my truck it was for the camper special trailer wiring, either for a power feed or for electric brakes. I cant be for sure, it was removed a long time ago.
