Paint & Primer

Post by 68FORDJBM »

I've been prepping the interior of my 68 for new primer and paint. I've removed almost everything (headliner, carper, dashboard, instrument pannel, etc). Any recommendations on how to treat and prep the surface rust in those hard to prep places behind the dash on the firewall? See picture.

What kind of primer and paint should I use? I haven't ever primed and painted before, but I would like to experiment on the interior myself. I have access to equipment: air compressor and pray nozzel.

Thanks,

Jeff

From what ive been hearing on here the POR-15 is good for sealing rust down to stop from getting oxygen and keep rusting, and ive seen pictures of others useing a brush to apply.ive never used it myself so i cant answer anything about it but ive herd a lot of good things about it on here. On the colored metal parts that you want to paint i would sand and prep the painted areas going up as high as a 400 grit before priming.use a sand and fill primer.and for painting i would use a single stage paint, something that doesnt need a clear coat over it.PM me if you need some help ill do what i can,Its just going to be hard for you to do with glass, trim, rubbers, ect in your truck. You may want to paint the inside of your truck one panel at a time.

If you have to paint around wiring or cables I cover them with aluminum foil, It works better than tape and is a lot less money :2cents:
