Re: 4X4X4 LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
It is starting to get real hot in my neck of the woods but i have been working away in the shop, trying to stay on track.
I am putting a touch screen multi-media stereo in the dash and it required some re-working on the dash to make it fit. I chose to weld up the ash tray and A/C / heater controls while i was at it. Here are a few pics of that.
I also got the cross over steering finished and installed. The stock tie bar is still attached in these pics. it was used for alignment measurements. It is off now.
The tie bar is only about half inch from the spring packs but lock to lock I have plenty of room. I used pre threaded ends welded to 1.5 inch steel tube. the tie bar weighs about 30 lbs! I doubt it will bend or break easily.
Aprons and fenders go on this weekend !!

Re: 4X4X4 LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Somehow I missed this thread.. have not read all of it but will when I get time. Looks like your crew is going to be a lot like mine is planned to be.
Regarding the heater controls and dash.. what do you plan to do for heater controls?
My '67 crew has one odd door on the right rear.. looks to be a later shell with the door lock button hole in the top.. but really shows no signs of being swapped or modded.. I'm thinking it has to be a later door..were all of your doors correct 67 style?
Looking great!
Eric

Re: 4X4X4 LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Thanks for the motivation! The cab and back doors are 67 style but the original front doors had some rust in the corners so I used a nice pair off a 71. I kinda like not having the lock buttons in the back. It is going to have power locks anyway. i had to modify the back doors inside handles to match the front. Sounds like some one had to swap a door off your truck. all my 67 style doors had no lock buttons. We would love to see some pics of your crew, Eric
I am using a vintage air kit, it has 3 control knobs that are going to be placed in the 3 factory holes on the dash just to the right of the steering column. To the left of the column will be a start button where the key cylinder was. All other switches will be placed in a overhead control panel that will have a 15 inch LCD DVD player at the rear of it so some one in the back seat can watch TV.
Todd, are you going to hide the power port behind the ashtray? There are tons of stereo choices, It took me months to figure out which one I wanted. Mine is a pioneer double din that will do all kinds of stuff, stereo, bluetooth, voice activation, GPS, etc. All on the touch screen. They make one that is single din, meaning it can fit in your original opening that does neat stuff too.
Here are some progress pics.
the aprons and core support getting paint and undercoated
installing the aprons and core support
battery trays. didn't realize the auxilary tray was so rare until I read the thread about them.
I applied colored bed liner to the underside of the aprons and the fenders
I am having to modify/make my own moulding for the B pillars and rear doors since finding 70 Ranger crew cab mouldings is impossible. Those pics are coming!

My truck will never turn out this nice...I must go junk it now....
Hot Damn that is sweet!!!
Did you just blast and paint the frame or do anything to smoothen it out? I'm getting ready to get ready to start on my frame but its pretty scaley and stuff, so I need to grind/weld on it a bit so I can get a smoooooth paint job on there..
Great idea on the dash mods, too. Thanks!

Rob,
Im thinking I will delete the ashtray and just put the port in its place and try to stay with the regular size opening for the stereo. I always am charging the phone or something so hate leaving the ashtra open all time and dont smoke so dont really need it. I will have bucket seats in the front with a center console.
