Steering Wheel restoration

Post by usmc93 »

Hi everyone, New to the forum. Just bought a 1970 F100 Custom SWB from the original owner (my uncle) truck has not had anything changed on it ever (except a few minor mechanical stuff, brakes, etc). My first old truck. Hope to bring it back to its full glory over the next couple of years, but just tackling the minor stuff first.
Pretty good overall condition. Boxwood Green, 302, 3spd.
Anyway, I am looking for somewhere to send off the steering wheel for a restoration as the rest of the interior looks pretty dang good. It has some cracks and heavy fading and I dont want to replace it and not a big fan of steering wheel covers.
Also any ideas or places for new headliners?
Thanks
Brent

the shipping on headliners is overpriced for what you will be getting. the best way to get one is to go into the nearest parts vendor and buy it off the shelf. or make your own of course. i think local shops may be your best bet at finding someone who restores or knows how to restore a steering wheel. or you can also buy a steering wheel restoration kit. from places like www.por15.com
other owners have restored thier steerign wheels using jbweld and sanding it down and repainting the whole wheel.
