12 VOLTS AT COIL RESISTOR WIRE

Post by f1shermun »

I have checked the voltage at the coil in start and run and It is 12vdc. there is a paired wire (red green) with the resistor wire at the ignition switch all the way to the connector in the engine compartment. is this right. \

I know that it should be closer to 6vdc for the coil at the resistor wire, but why would they run the wires that way? Given the rule of path of least resistance, this set up will never work right. :hmm:

Does anyone have a suggestion.

Try unhooking the "Brown" wire on the Starter Solenoid and see if you still have 12V at the coil. If you don't check the voltage at this terminal, it should only have power on it when the Solenoid is activated as it is used to help with cold starting (it could be stuck on). If you still have 12V at the coil with this wire unhooked I would check that someone didn't bypass the resistor wire from the ignition switch. You can purchase a new resistor wire from most parts stores.

This wire diagram shows how the 2 wires are run. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wiring/68-09.jpg
