Vintage Air Compac install

Post by Bieb »

I am in the process of installing this a/c unit in a 67. The truck originally had only heat and the vents in the kick panels. I choose the VA unit that is fully electronic. I did a quick search and did not see where anyone had documented an install like this. I'm at a good point to take pictures and post. I can set my camera for lower resolution for easier posting. Any hints on posting pictures will be helpful, since I have not done that yet. Please let me know if anyone is interested and I'll begin to document the install. Hoping to get this all finished before spring. Summer comes early in Texas!!

I can't wait to see it, I am in Texas too and know all to well how dang hot it can get here. I look forward to see how this goes because I want to do an aftermarket AC in my 67 project as well.

The easiest way for me to post pics is to upload pics to a photobucket account and once they are there use those pics to post on here.

I'll be doing this myself in a year or so and I, too, would be greatly interested in your install. I posted this tutorial on uploading attachments a while back. Maybe it'll be of some help.

I am also interested in your install if this unit is a behind the dash assuming it is a heat/cool and not just cool utilizing the factory heater box (mine is long gone).

Not trying in any way, to take away from Fordification photo site, but the easiest way to post pictures is to use Photobucket, open a free account, create a album for each category of your pictures, upload all the pictures you want, they can be any size. Then all you have to do is when posting here is go to your photobucket album, find the picture you want to post, grab or copy the IMG code and paste it in your post. A added benefit is all your pictures are in one place on the internet to share with friends or other sites.

Here is what you look for on photobucket

Hope you get your pictures on here, would like to see them

Not sure just what the difference is in what you are doing. You can create multiple galleries here along with link to the pics from anywhere. Same concept.

I use both sites, here and photobucket but picture size is limited here to 10024 KB, you can only upload 5 at a time, and a total limit per album of 1024 MB. Photobucket has 20 MB file size limit per photo, unlimited total amount plus you can upload 1 to 500 or more at a time.

Both work just fine, but for me I had to re-size every picture before I could upload to Fordification Gallery.

Would like to see this install as well. New to this site and haven't tried posting pics yet. But I am rebuilding a 65 f100 with 300 six. Looking forward to putting air in mine too.

Thanks for the help with the pictures. I took some today before the sun went down. Glad for about an hour longer day light now. The Compac 2 unit is under dash. I made a cardboard mock up box of the mini and compac from the dimensions on Vintage Air's website and the unit was dead on with them. I was advised to go w/ the compac due to the Texas heat. It comes with some brackets, but of course it's a universal kit, so I made my own brackets. Modified two of theirs and made two of my own from 1" x 1/8" flat bar from Lowes. I am mounting the switch panel in the ash tray hole. I'll try to get pictures up soon of the place in the firewall where I cut a hole to be able to mount the unit more towards the center of the truck. Felt that was better for vent placement and heater outlet air flow. More details to come....

Bieb,

I'll be watching your install as well. I just installed a Vintage Air Mini in my '69. I have yet to install the bulkhead fitting and route the lines. I plan on using the Black anodized "Streamline" control panel mounted in the original control bezel. What controls are you planning on using??

Very curious to see what you did to the firewall to mount the unit in the center...

Cheers!

I look forward to seeing this. My '68 has under dash AC that needs updating in it. Does everything you need come in the kit?
