Good-day fellas,
So, I'm finally going to get a 428 FE for my '69 highboy.
Any recommendations??
It's Time to part ways with the beloved 360! Been running it for about two years now, many compliments on how well she's been doing. But simply put, at 130K miles, it's tired. Did a compression test, came up with a high of 70 in one hole, 60 all the way around, and a low of 40 in another hole. Pretty poor! Checked the cyl. walls 15k ago, they were perfect. Lifters were also good. I was putting another set of heads on it at the time. Been running a 650 cfm Edelbrock 4bbl., on a Performer 390 intake. Also running Hooker headers... With this combo, I have seen over 17mpg on the highway, 60mph. Just plum sweet. But It's time for the upgrade!
So, I'm parting out the 360... I think I'll keep the carb, heads, and intake, unless someone really wants them. The Headers will go on my '28. I want to get rid of the running block, would make a excellent starter for a rebuild of a 390 or something along those lines. I'd just hate to see it scrapped! It's been so good to me!
I also have a 390 on the shop floor. Has a good RV cam and of course the 390 crank/rods, otherwise stock. Not sure what it looks like inside. Supposedly a 25k motor. Hasn't run for two years, no heads or intake on it. Maybe a combo of these two motors with a rebuilt kit and new pistons would yield a nice 390 for anyone wanting one?
Come and get 'em!!
I don't want much more than scrap price for the pair of engines. The 360 is running in the pickup now, but will probably pull it this week. I can video it running if anyone wants to see, before I pull it.
I'm near Boise, Idaho.
Long Live the FE!!!

Jealous as hell. Let us know how that 428 works out for ya, when you get 'er running. Good luck to you during the swap.

Do you still have the rods and the crank. Id like to make my 360 a 390 some time.
