nope...after rebuilding the column/shifter she was...then BANG literally...backfired...NO START! I am thinking I slipped time and lost timing chain/distributor...will have to look at it in two weeks when I return from Cali...look in ENGINE forums.

OK soo.. timing chain and gears replaced...timing set 10 btdc...new carb, water pump and HEI distributor and coil...got it running but will not idle, as soon as u take foot off gas stalls. I HAD two vacuum ports on the old points distributor and only one on the HEI dizzy...which one to connect? Also, after she stalls she spurts gas out of the carb...anyone assist me with some adjustment advice?

After changing that much stuff sound like you have a few problems compounding themselves on you. first off though, gas spruting out the top of the carb ususally means the float is stuck. Try tapping on the front of the carb where the fuel line goes into it with a rubber mallet of a cloth wrapped small ball peen hammer and see if that shakes it up enough. thats why your truck is dying when you let off the fuel its flooding big time. You only need one vac line going to your new hei. for now connect your vac line from the distributor to the vacuum port that is higher up on the passenger side of the carb. this is timed port vacuum. and plug off the port at the baseplate and try starting it again.
