Re: 5 speed
no experience with the swap, but one time when i was at pick-n-pull i found a 90's model 5.0 powered f150 and it has a 5 speed with a hydraulic clutch. so you might be able to use that with the 351w flywheel (for the old 302 28oz balance, unless the 302 is a newer model)

Re: 5 speed
sorry, didnt read that you didnt want a hydraulic clutch. im sure you could use the old manual clutch bell housings that originally came in our trucks.

Re: 5 speed
If you really want a 5 speed I wouldn't let the hydraulic clutch conversion stop you it's not that much work
and a nicer setup in the long run

Re: 5 speed
You need to mount a master cylinder on the firewall and modify the clutch peddle to accept the rod to operate it .
I think most people mount it inboard of the brake booster and use or modify the lever that connects to the linkage.
However I made a bracket that clamped to the peddle and mounted the master cylinder outboard of booster,It seemed easier to me.
You will also need the hydraulic line from master cylinder to slave cylinder I used the M5ODR2 5 speed which used an internal slave cylinder
so there were no changes under the truck.I replaced a NP-435 so the 5 speed was longer if I recall correctly the cross member needed to be moved back about 6"
but it used the same transmission mount. One thing I forgot is that you need to reinforce the firewall where you mount the master cylinder to keep it from flexing
Apiece of 10ga. plate 4'"x 8" is more enough.
Hope this helps, others here have done it maybe they will chime in also.

Re: 5 speed
My understanding is the hydraulic has a smoother operation, less pedal travel, less effort to engage/disengage, self adjusting, less affected by engine movement under load or from loose/worn motor and tranny mounts.slayton67 wrote:Wat are the benefits to having a hydraulic clutch vs the old style

Re: 5 speed
Is the M5R2 the same as the 5 speed in the Ranger Pickups too? Anyone know?
