Has anyone ever put speakers in the back of the bench seat?

Post by Bryan_Tenn »

Toying around with ideas of where to put speakers that are hidden. The back of the bench seat looks like a perfect place to me. The way those springs are made looks like they would house a piece of fiber style board that would fit in there good & tight. Im keeping my tank in the cab so behind seat is not an option.

NOW, like all ideas that are off the top of my head & seem brilliant to me, I need you guys to tell me why this will not work

Right in the back of the seat you could feel that bass too

Remember how flexible the seat feels when you sit in it. Be careful not to get a lump in your back when you drive it.

ok, i see where you're going but I think I can solve it. I will think that one through some more. These are just ideas in my head at the moment.

What about.....making something & mounting them low in the cab corners, so it will be below filler neck on driver side? I think I saw something like that on a 67ish chevy truck. Has anyone tried that?

I'm thinking about doing a set mounted above the floor under the seat. There's a lot more room there vs. the seat back to tank.

Hadn't thought of that. My seat is out, interior stripped so I'm not visually seeing how much room is under the seat when this stuff is popping in my mind.

Would you mount them in a small box then fasten them to the floor? Or a box that ran the length of the seat maybe? How many speakers?

I'm thinking of trying to "fix" my dashpad with some fiberglass & that would involve covering up the huge hole where the speaker cutout was so I'm gonna do away with the dash speaker.

Just a stand, or a box, or even cut out the floor and sink a box in it. Figure at least a pair of 6 x 9's or a 8" sub with a 4" mid and 1" tweets on top of the tank. I'm no audiophile so I can't make any other suggestions.

I made some boxes and put (4) 6x9's around the edge of my seat. Don't have any pics. They were kinda triangular shaped. One set sat in front where the seat overhangs the mounting pedestal surface. The other set, I mounted on the outside edge of the seat where the floor slopes from the door sill up to the mounting pedestal surface. Here's a marked up photo showing about where, you get the idea. They were kinda crude but put out decent sound and didn't get in the way. The speaker grills sat right about even with where the bench overhangs, in the front set, and the side set I tilted up a few degrees so they weren't just bouncing sound off of the doors.

Yep, did this a long time ago in the 70's with my 8 track  . Wedged a set into the back of the seat springs until I could get around to mounting them. Well, 3 years later I finally attached them behind the seat above the gas tank.

Before restoring my truck back to original, I had built a couple of boxes that fit under front edge of seat facing up, had a 100 watt Fosgate amp driving 2 - 6 x 9's. Could rattle the rear view mirror, with great sound. Once I grew up and restored truck, just put a replacement speaker where factory dash speaker was, and eliminated Fosgate.

well when I was younger in my early 20's I restored first gen mustangs & made everything original. Now I'll be 39 in a couple months & I'm wanting the boxes under the seat, rat rod shop truck thats made the way I want it, not the way judges say it should be
