Six Cylinder Power Steering Gear Box Interchange

Post by Jeffro »

I have a 1970 F100 with a 240 straight six. The return side inverted flare fitting is warped on my gearbox and allowing air to siphon into the system. I would like to convert it to a manual gear box.

As I understand it, the six cylinder uses the Ford Integral Design Power Steering gearbox (C9TZ-3504-C) which is not a Bendix or a Saginaw. The housing is configured similar to a Saginaw unit but has a four bolt sector shaft cover.

Anyone know what needs to be changed to convert the Integral Design Power Steering box to a manual gearbox?

I don't think anyone ever asked that before.
Here is the article from the tech section on how to put power steering in.
Maybe it'll answer some questions.

It was worth a try. I read the tech write up before I posted. All I want to know is if the four bolt Ford box is the same dimensions as the two bolt. I hate dealing with sarcastic keyboard warriors on these forums. I wouldn’t have asked if I could find the info anywhere else. Nothing about the Ford four bolt box.

Forgiven. I’m sorry too. Took me a week of bleeding to find that the fitting was warped. I’m frustrated.

Spoke to the guys at Red Head steering gears. They think it is an aftermarket replacement for a Saginaw box.
