re: chilton or other manuals??
What you need is the set of factory shop manuals. They are MUCH MUCH more detailed than any of the cheesy Haynes or Chilton manuals. You can usually get a good deal on the set on E-bay, if you don't mind getting good used books. I just did a quick search there and was surprised to find that while there are some listed for the other years, there doesn't appear to be one for the '72s listed (there normally are), but if you keep an eye out you can pick up the three-book set fairly inexpensively. The manuals are a must-have for all truck owners!

re: chilton or other manuals??
Haynes does not publish a manual for '67-72 trucks. They do publish one for the '73-79's. Chilton's is the only aftermarket manual for these trucks that I am aware of.

re: chilton or other manuals??
chiltons makes a hard cover repair manual that cover all the trucks in the 60s and early 70s thats the one I like. and still available at staples and other fine book stores. but if you can find one of the old Motor
repair manuals(big red hard covers). they got better wire diagrams.
also if you got lots of cash you can get a on demand set-up for your computer thats the real deal no more oily pages just print what you need and toss it when you are done.

It would be great to have a haynes manual. Best for begginers and Chiltons is for those who already know the basics. And When Haynes mentions the color pull out depicting the spark plugs and the different conditions it actualy has one.
BTW For those who don't know They are published by the same company. Chiltons.

re: chilton or other manuals??
The best you can buy is the factory shop manual... I have had haynes and chilton's both, and brother, let me tell you...
Theyare WORTHLESS. you cannot find what you are looking for, and if you do, you will find stuff like this:
FRONT PINION SEAL REMOVAL: Remove front end. Find some kind of puller. Remove yoke from pinion shaft. Remove pinion seal. CAUTION::: WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!!!! Careful: don't screw pinion seal up as you are replacing it. Replace yoke, torquing it to a guesstimate figure. re-hang front end. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AND USE JACK STANDS AND DON'T GET HURT!!!!
Seriously, I'm not making that up, cause I looked it up the other night. I wouldn't waste my money on a haynes or a chilton's

re: chilton or other manuals??
Yeah, Chilton and Haynes aren't thought out very well. On one car I was working on a couple of years ago the book told me how to test the O2 sensor with a volt meter, another area of the same book cautioned me to never test the O2 sensor with a volt meter. And you'll find things like spelling errors and bad grammar too. And like BFB pointed out, all the stupid warnings and cautions are very annoying too. My Chilton insists they didn't offer the C-6 in 69.
But, they beat having nothing, so if you get them, get both of them, You'll find Haynes has more pictures and more detail in wiring, but it's a small book so what they don't cover there's a good chance the Chilton will. They compliment each other.
