Re: CNC Milled Aluminum Sun Visor Thingy
Ok, a little progress. Got the garage warmed up and fired up the mill. Spent a couple hours making most of the fixture to do the slots and also act as a backer for the radiused base cuts. I'll try to get some more done tomorrow afternoon.

Re: CNC Milled Aluminum Sun Visor Thingy
OK, did a little more this evening before the oldest kid wanted to take the family out to dinner. Hard to turn down a free meal. Got the mounting holes drilled and counterbored. Now I just need to machine the alignment slots in the top for the finished part to index in so I can make the mounting hole slotted. The fixture will replace the back jaw of the vise and I'll use it for two steps in making the parts.
What fun.

Re: CNC Milled Aluminum Sun Visor Thingy
Progress, finally...
Got the fixture finished and had to rework the program to fit, but it turned out really well. The sun visor clip mounting screws now have 1/8" of adjustment.
The fixture with parts setting in it. It bolts to the back jaw of the vise so I can use it as a stop for the back cut and a holder / stop for the slotting process.

Closeup of the fixture. The drilled hole in the center is used to index the program to the fixture.

Nice blurry picture of the mill cutting the slots. Takes four minutes to slot two parts.
![Image](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z291/Ranchero50/Sun%20Visor%20Clip/DSCF0320.jpg)
Slotted next an original on my scratch paper for plotting the cuts.
![Image](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z291/Ranchero50/Sun%20Visor%20Clip/DSCF0321.jpg)
Installed in my '71. Of course it's cold out, it's dark out, and I couldn't find the other screw
![Image](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z291/Ranchero50/Sun%20Visor%20Clip/DSCF0322.jpg)
I have I think eight or twelve good parts now and another batch of parts to refine tune the process. i have two to mail out and I'll PM the guys that want one once I get caught up.

Re: CNC Milled Aluminum Sun Visor Thingy
Josh, I'm having a hard enough time getting this little project finished up. Didn't get to play with the mill last night, actually just too tired by the time I got home from work.

No problem, didn't mean to sound like I was rushing, just curious if you had any more progress. I'm really anticipating a great looking piece to replace my plastic Volvo kit. Just trying to keep from missing it when you get it going.

Re: CNC Milled Aluminum Sun Visor Thingy
The sun visor clip arrived today. Just like your dome lamp bezel it's machined nicely with a high polish. Fit is very good and the slotted holes will be nice to get it lined-up just right and deal with any crooked mounting holes. It looks great is a nice billet piece that you couldn't get anywhere else. Thanks for the great work Jamie!Ranchero50 wrote:OK, first three prototypes are away to be fit and hopefully get some good pictures.

Re: CNC Milled Aluminum Sun Visor Thingy
They are real close. I have a couple that are done that were used to proof the program, they are 90% parts or better. MAK is a little concerned about the visors falling out of the hanger. I had to open the slot through which the visor tip passes so the old dry rotted tips wouldn't fall apart the first time you put them away. I want to see how they do on the road in the trucks. I have a second batch / version for the dents and the '68 and up cars in process too. They sit flat vs inclined like the bump mount. I want some feedback so they are 'prefect' before releasing.
