broken inside boor handle

The drivers door inside door handle on my 1971 Sport Custom is disconnected from the latching mechanism. Evidently the cable or whatever that connects to the handle is broken. What is this part and where can I find a replacement? I haven't seen this part listed in LMC or other catalogs. Thanks in advance to anyone who can fill me in?

Assuming they are like most other stuff from this era, there is probably a rod that is held on by a clip. The clip probably broke and the rod is hanging inside the door.

The clips can usually be found in the "help" section of the chain auto parts stores.

One of my doors wouldn't open from the inside either. On my 72 the latch has a stubby knob that sticks into the door and lifts the rod. If the that knob is to worn down it will just slip off the rod instead of lifting it to open. I just ordered a new one from LMC. I have always been happy with their quick service.

Just an idea, hope it helps. They are easy to change..takes less than a beer.
