D44 seals or?

I believe this is a 75' F250 D44... on the passenger side I have oil coming out and looks like the old owner just put RTV (silicone sealant) around the hub. It is also leaking aroung the inside and hub so is that a seal blown or... havent tore it apart but thinking I might be driving the truck with this axle for a time so want to fix it? Any thoughts info, where I can get parts etc?

yea, your seals are probably bad, id'e replace them and your inner and outer bearings while your at it.

looks like jeffs broco graveyard has the parts, recommend anywhere else? Im pretty sure its off a 75' but will pull numbers tonight to verify. Can you get brake pads for this anywhere or? Thought about the disc brake conversion (is there one)?

I wouldn't put any money into that axle. If you're going with the monster lift and big tires a kingpin 60 is the only way to fly, especially under a crew. Nothing wrong with RTV, works far superior to most any gaskets OEMs used back in the day. There's nothing to leak out of the hub itself. The bearings are packed with grease and shouldn't leak unless it's old and seperating. The trunnion caps should be sealed with silicone and the knuckle wiper should seal the "ball" from leaking. Brake parts are very easy to get. Ford used the HD drum 44 for many, many years.

Best place to get wheel bearings and seals is a bearing house. I wouldn't replace them unless they're really bad though. Actually, even then I probably wouldn't do it either. I'd probably just let the races spin in the hub before putting money into one of those.

Just need it good enough to get to the spring shop and weight station to get a good weight of the front of the truck for the new springs (mind you that is a 500mile drive :lol: to the place I want to get it done anyway ).

Will be putting a dynatrac pro rock 60 in :D yep, I wouldnt waste the money in it either just enough to keep the oil in (spindle seal, knuckle wiper) :thup:

A quick easy "fix", if you can call it that, is to fill the hub with regular grease. All the lube has to do is get to the bearings and the grease will do that, it's just thicker and will not leak as fast. Works until you get it fixed for real.

I never put anything in the knuckles. I just packed the trunnions, greased the U-joints and put some grease on the stub axle and called it good.
