Install a Cassette player in my glove box?

Post by 71Ford »

I've got 71 xlt ranger w/ the factory am/fm radio and factory door speakers (like the ones listed in the brochure) My question is , I'd like to keep the factory look and mount a cassette player in the glove box but I figured that all new cassette players will have a plug in type wiring...and I figured that I need MANUAL type...the kind where I manually twist the red power wires together and place electric tape over , and so on, and so on, etc., etc. Am I correct? How do I install a new cassette player to left/right speakers, and to the power supply, and to the ground if it(the new cassette radio) has those little plastic plug things???? Any help from anybody is SURE APPRECIATED...like brand names that will be easier to install in this wiring scenario....Should I try a junk yard for an older type cassette player or can I buy a new one cut the plastic plug thingies off???

You can either "beat 'em" or "join 'em".... cut 'em, or install the new terminals on the end of the old wires... shouldn't make much difference. I never did see why all the fuss over all the easy plug-in connections, as I don't plan on taking the thing in and out all the time... so if I do, it's gonna be a big deal anyway and I'll just splice again. I prefer to solder the connections and use heatshrink tubing over the splice to make sure it's a good air/water tight seal and wont corrode.
