12v or 6v?

Post by DLAllen »

Quick question for anyone. Looking at getting a 1970 Custom with the 390, auto (C6), 2wd.
My burning question (that I have not been able to find info on as of yet) is are the 1970 trucks 12v? If I recall correctly most makers had switched to 12v by the early 70's. Am I correct?

Thanks......

I know my 68 is twelve volt so it only makes sense that the 70 would be too. By the way welcome to the site and glad to have you. You'll enjoy it here so kick up your feet and relax. Lot's of great info and the people love to help out if they can. :wel: :fr: Feel free to jump over to the welcome mat and let us know a little about you.

Yes, you are correct, I'm not sure exactly what year Ford switched over, but It was well before '70.

As far as I recall, Ford went to using alternators on the '65 models...I know this is true for the Mustang anyway. But all models would have been switched over +/- a year from that point.
