Removing door glass?

Post by Darrman »

How do you remove the glass from the regulator, and what kind of putty/glue do you use to reinstall to the regulator?
Thanks!

just hit the glass with a hammer. i always take the regulator out or loose to get the arm out of the bracket of the window. i'm not sure what you mean by gluue or putty on the regulator. for reinstallation. do you mean grease on the roller at the arm? and there is also a tutorial here. http://www.fordification.com/doors01.htm

You have to maneuver the regulator just right to get the little roller wheels out of the channel and hold the window all the way "up" with one hand while you pull the regulator back out of the middle of the door or lay inside the lower bottom of the door if you want to just leave it laying in there.
I clean my regulators good to remove all the old congealed grease/dirt with something like brake or carb cleaner or lacquer thinner and then squirt with PB blaster and let that soak in good and then pack everywhere I can with some type of white lithium grease or silicone grease and grease the little white plastic roller wheel before reinstall in tracks. I clean tracks on window too with brake cleaner inside door and try to wipe it out to remove contaminants and old congealed hardened grease too.
You'd be surprised how much nicer your windows will roll up and down if you clean everything thoroughly and grease nicely before reassy.

Ok, finally finished stripping down both doors, except for the door locks and latches.
What a mess, seals as crispy as potato chips, regulator track dry as a bone and rusty as hell, windows still worked, but a tad stiff, lol.
Is the roller on the end of the regulator supposed to turn, hope not cause mine sure dont.
