removing pass side door lock cylinder

Post by SteveC »

Ok not sure if this is the right place but my driver side door lock cylinder was froze to the point it couldnt get a key in it after a lot of pb blaster and a few very light taps on a key i got the key to go in a out easy but the problem lies in that it wont turn i can get it to go both directions just a little but it wont lock or unlock the door with the key.

Im pretty sure the key and locks were never changed so do i just need to pull the lock out>??? and if so how would i go about doing this

thank you

Steve

to get the cylinder out, take the door panel off, reach in the door and remove the clip retaining the cylinder with your fingers, and push the cylinder outside of the doorshell.

do you use your door locks? on my truck the doors were never locked and the latch greese was somewhat hardend to the point where i could not turn the key at all. what I did was spray downt the door latch with PB Blaster and let it soak in before I started to work the key lock/unlock repeatedly eventualy it freed up and now thery are fine. if you do take your door pannel off i'd spray down the inside of the latch as well... good luck its an easy fix either way...

the drivers side i use all the time since the only way to lock it from out side is the key.
I cant use the lock then hold in the butten as i close the door trick...

but i imagine that the pass side was never used. I couldnt even get a key to go in at first.

Probally be easiest to remove the panel since i was wanting to put some sound deadning in there away way.

Yeah Steve...

It's really easy to remove the lock cylinders.
All of our rigs are set up to have to be locked with the key from the out side...
So if yer thinkin' that's a problem with yer lock set, it isn't.
I really like that feature, it keeps me from lockin' my keys in the rig.
I do that with my van all the time...
I keep 3 or 4 extra keys handy just in case.
One time, I actually locked myself out with 3 spare keys and two slim-jims
locked inside the van... all within view.
It was pouring down rain and the van was running...
That has never happened in my bump... :D

that's why I had the slim-jims...
I had always kept one under the back bumper and one under the front...
I had gotten them both out to help someone else and had just tossed 'em in the back seat...
I always keep a spare key in my wallet and have a second set of keys (like a master set that has keys to every rig on it)
it was clipped to my back pack which was sitting on the passenger seat with my wallet in it...
I'd started it up and had gotten out to talk to Ashley Cleveland.
She's a rockin' christian recording artist (singer/guitar player) who I admire greatly.
This happened at her concert...
Ok, so now I felt like I was about an inch tall and kinda just wanted to crawl under the van.
She ended up helpin' me round up a old school wire coat hanger...
it took me about 2 seconds flat to get into the van with it...
so I sorta redeeemed myself... :D

yeah cant lock your self out of these trucks...the trick to hold the button in while closing it after you locked it doesnt work here...

now my next question is how do you get the lock cylinder out of the little piece it is in after you remove it from the door i need to pull mine apart to clean it since its full of gunk

I've learned to keep an extra key in my wallet for emergency reasons, although I must have a hundred extra locksets and twice as many keys. if indeed you need a new door lock PM me and we can set you up and walk you through changing out the tumblers from your old one into it. Just for information THERE'S NO WAY TO MAKE A MASTER KEY for a Ford lock. there's too many combinations and a 5 pin and 7 pin tumbler set up in them.
