You mean unlock when you close the door? Yeah, at least mine does. They have to be locked from the outside with the key. Keeps you from locking the keys inside.

Alright just making sure, my key doesn't lock the driver side door for some reason. I think the rods are hooked up wrong, or something. But it does like passenger side.

it could be the lever on the backside of the lock is broken. they are famous for that. i have seen many of them break. they things are made of potmetal. so they don't last forever.

Where can I get that lever? Is it on the lock itself or a rod?

The "lever" that Fordman speaks of is built onto the door lock itself. You can get a set of all 3 cylinder, (which would include the new ignition switch cylinder you also need) from NPD or DC for about $30.00.

Would that lever also cause it to be hard to turn?

Yes, my P.S. had the same symptom as you describe. I got lucky enough to work some PB blaster into it and free it up a few days ago. You really should pull the door panel off before you buy anything though. :2cents:

i don't think you can buy the little level new or reproduced. if its hard to turn that tells me either worn out key. or dirty mechanism someplace. probably the door latch. since it is the part that is being pushed on by the lever to open the lock on the latch.

so if the lock turns hard the lever is probably still there and working. it is either a bound up rod. doubtful. or a dirty latch or even dirt in the lock. just take them off and clean them up.

I'm confused... So the original question is that if you are in your truck, you open the door to get out, you push the lock down, you close the door, the lock pops up again therefore not locked... correct? Then it is determined that this is how it should be, so you don't lock your keys inside? Now were trying to figure out a way to "fix it"?

I was wondering if it was suppose to do that, then I asked a question about my lock cylinder because My driver side door wont lock from the outside. So were trying to guess what the problem is.

So fordman, the lever is on the lock cylinder itself right? And I can just replace those to fix my driver side door?
