F600 gauges- what sending units?

Post by fomocoguy »

I am going to be installing my F600 gauge cluster here soon and thought I'd ask you all about the sending units required. I know my temp and fuel should work fine, but my concerns are the oil pressure and alt gauges. My originals are just lights, so are the oil sending units the same or will I need one for this gauge? Also, will I need to do something different for the alternator light? Thanks!

I am pretty sure that the oil pressure sending unit will have to be changed out. No biggie as you just get the type for a gauge. I am planning on the same swap soon and if memory serves there is also a slight wiring change that must be done to make the ALT gauge work correctly. My old PC recently died but I think I had the schematic saved on it from a post on here describing the change. It didnt look like anything all that major to me.

Hey thanks! I saw one post where somebody (I think Fordman) said something about putting a shunt in the alt wiring, but I'm not really sure what he meant by that...

Yes......something like that I think. It seems a lot of folks dismiss that gauge as nearly useless. I myself am planning on using a secondary set of gauges as a backup that includes a voltmeter so I want to retain the original gauge in the F600 cluster just for kicks. I am pretty sure Thunderfoot was the one that knows for sure what the exact change is. Maybe you could message him?
