Thought I'd share a little something I wrote a while back. You'll either laugh or thing I'm bat sh!# crazy and either is fair
Blues--
I talk to my truck. I know you're thinking "as long as it doesn't talk back to you"...but it does... and he sounds remarkably like Sam Elliott. (If you didn't already think I was crazy this may be a good time to start, but I do realize I'm making all this up so maybe that counts for something.)
"Blue!!" I'll mentally yell at him as I search the parking lot for his superman blue behemoth "Where the hell are you you hunk of junk?"
"Right where you left me!" he'll snap in a rumbly drawl "and I'd be watching who you're callin' a hunk of junk unless you're fixin' to walk home. Do you realize that after you left a Prius parked next to me? I've spent the last four hours hearing how I'm killing the earth for crying out loud."
Blue doesn't like people to talk about his drinking problem.
He also has an obnoxiousimean great sense of humor. Take this April 1st: it was raining steadily and I was late for work. I jumped in, started Blue up, went to switch on the wipers...and nothing happened.
"April Fools!" says Blue with a throaty chuckle.
"Blue this isn't funny, I need the wipers!"
"What? You say the blinkers? They're working just fine! Hehheh"
Luckily work wasn't far. As I pulled into a parking spot nerve wracked and drenched from hanging my head out the window... the wipers started working.
"Blue you are such an @$$hole."
"You know I played the same prank on your dad and he didn't laugh either. You people have no sense of humor."
Apparently in the 1960s seat belts were optional, but smart @$$ came stock.
This weekend Blue sat at home, my punishment to him after leaving me stranded on Friday. "Its national ride your bike to work day Liz. It's good for you." What Blue failed to realize is that I had forgotten my bike along the side of the road the last time he ran out of gas. Jokes on him!
.....er...wait....

Re: Blues
you know i think my truck may be kin to yours. kinda sounds like the way ol rustbucket pranks me. Pretty funny though. Kinda does seem like these ol things got personalities after you drive them long enough.

Re: Blues
Oh yeah these trucks have serious character. They drive differantly is seems to their stature. My dads 72 camper special is a total snob. kinda slow but holds his nose up high. My DD 4x4 is a do-er. Somtimes cranky to start but he has a can-do attitude and is willing to take on anything without to much guff and never talks back. if anything he always wispering in my ear " lets go for a drive, drive me it will be fun" "well have a good time, we'll see where we end up but lets go!" Like what has been said were kinda all in the same boat. alot of these pickups have thier own quirks and character.

Re: Blues
My Girl never actually speaks in words to me... But she has one hell of a temper! And certain kindness to her as well. She saved me from destroying her and a family in a Mini Van, and saved herself and an idiot lady that pulled out in front of me while I had a heavy trailer behind her. But don't treat her right and she will let you know. She likes to be heard and run, but hates to be abused! One time, she probably kept me from killing a guy that cut us off and ran us off the interstate, she kept her footing and got me back on the pavement without missing a beat, but when I got back up to the 18 wheeler and was trying to talk him into pulling off the interstate she decided that was a good time to lose the drive shaft. She is a good hearted sort, and just like any women loves to get attention! She was with me as a kid, and took my Dad and I to the highest peaks in the Continental United States (that any vehicle could venture) and I remember her smiling as we plowed through the snow. She is a one of a kind, and every time you get in her you have to talk nice, and give her a compliment or she just wont start. She will flood herself out with some big crocodile tears, and than pout for hours before she will fire up. My wife refers to her as my Mistress or Floozy, and I kind of have to agree! Oh and don't even think about getting her a pair of shoes that are under 400 dollars, you want to talk about having an attitude, she likes her designer cloths!

Re: Blues
You can just feel it in these old trucks. The feeling you don't get riding around in a new car. My wife catches me talking to her from time to time and thinks I am nuts.
