seat upholstery and interior questions

Post by tylerb43 »

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to send my seat to a local contact to reupholster it and have a couple questions.

This is the seat that came out of my 69 Ranger. It had a black cover over it, but luckily it looks like the original is still there for the most part.

My plan is to have the guy use this as a pattern, but with the colors and material that I want.

Can someone tell me if this is the correct pattern for a 69 Ranger? I know my truck originally had a red dash, wheel, and door panels. So it seems pretty strange that the seat would be cream color, which makes me wonder if the seat was changed out at some point, hence the black cover. :? What do you guys think?

Okay, I believe this (below picture) is what a 69 Ranger seat pattern should look like. Sometimes there are "buttons", and sometimes not, correct? And all the other trim packages had the insert area that ran to the top of the seat back. So, what the heck is this seat out of? It has a hinged back of course, but there's no latch, so that tells me it wouldn't be from a dent, right? Could it be from a 61-66?

Basically, I've never seen this (photo above) pattern in a 67-72. :hmm:

I am working on the same project, I plan on matching my original seat pattern as well.

You are on the right track w the ebay photo, the pattern on your current bench does not look like an original 69 ranger bench pattern that I have ever seen, but I am not an expert.

It might be the original seat but re-uphostered, or it could have been pulled from somewhere else and then covered with a black seat cover to match the red interior.

good luck

:hmm: The pattern is definitly different than most, but I'm no expert  I do know I've got 3 bumps....all of them were red with red seats(vinyl)with the exception of the 67CS..which had red and black cloth, but seat belt colors were different in every one......70 had cream colored,67250 had red and my 67f100 has black :? Not sure when the latch came into effect :? My current 67 has the latch and the other 2 seats are long since gone.....so that might be pre 67 :?
I've had enough and I'm not alone

Thanks for the input, guys. The pattern is definitely different, and I kinda like it, but I think I'm going to give him the seat and show him a picture of the Ranger pattern, and hopefully that will get him there. On using the Ranger pattern, I was thinking black vinyl with charcoal gray cloth pleated inserts. But now that I've uncovered this "original" cover, it's got me thinking a cream or tan with the gray inserts wouldn't be bad either. I could use the cream colored visors I already have, but I've got black armrests. I'm not using the ranger door panels (just the trim ring) because I like the painted steel look. (obvious by the smoothed dash I guess) :)

Dammit, don't you hate it when you've got your mind made up about something, and then one thing makes you question everything again??

I've got a 68, two other 69's, and a 73 at my Dad's farm, I'm going to call him and ask him to check for seat latches, but I thought that didn't start until 73, but I may be wrong. :hmm:

I've been doing upholstery for 13 years, and I've never seen a Ford bench seat that the inserts continued over the front edge, period. So, yeah, I'd agree it's not original.

The seat latches started in 1973 to meet safety requirements.

Tyler - take a look at my before and after pics. I think my seat was original. 68 Camper Special. Hope this helps.
