New radio installation in my 69 bump
When I got the truck there was just a gaping hole in the dash. My mechanic put it in and I think it fits pretty nicely.

That radio looks just like mine! I have a JVC KD-R200. Can't quite read the numbers on yours, but all the buttons are identical.
I really like my radio. I detach the faceplate whenever I park the truck.

Novice question...
Dobyou guys which put an aftermarket head unit in use the factory single speaker or put your own speakers in? I'm embarrassed to ask, so keep your laughter to yourselves please.

Re: New radio installation in my 69 bump
Can't think of any stereo installation I've ever done (out of at least 25) where I still used the factory speaker(s). A decent set of coaxial speakers will make a world of difference in sound quality and power handling, while costing very little. The trick is the installation of the new speakers. I'm getting ready to install some door speakers this summer along with power door locks. I'll post pics and a detailed guide, but it may not be posted until August. If you have any specific questions about installation, feel free to ask.

Re: New radio installation in my 69 bump
I guess I didn't type what I was really thinking.
I meant do you guys use the factory single-speaker setup, or do most people cut a hole in their doors or kickpanels or make some fiberglass speaker housings?
I'm crazy about stereos, I have a very respectable one in my daily driver. I'd like to have something nice in the truck, but wondering how it's done without mutilating a door or kickpanel.
Thanks,
Brandon

Re: New radio installation in my 69 bump
The PO cut holes in the kick panel for speakers. I will be putting in new speakers there, but the space is small. There's only room for 3-1/2" speakers, which can't really hit the low frequencies. I'll probably follow joebig's footsteps, and put some larger speakers under the seats just for bass. I don't want to cut any more holes for speakers, and I can't afford the headliner from LMC.bbyrnes1 wrote:I meant do you guys use the factory single-speaker setup, or do most people cut a hole in their doors or kickpanels or make some fiberglass speaker housings?

Re: New radio installation in my 69 bump
I made my own boxes that fit on the sides of the seat, on that sloped section of the floor, and put 6x9's in those sloped slightly upwards. Then made more that sat on the floor in front of the seat, tucked up under the edge, and put 5" rounds in those. Boxes were a little shallow but worked ok.
