This one followed me home from KY yesterday...

Post by DjangoFett »

Finally found a suitable start for our '71 short bed project!
It had a frame-off restoration done about 10 years ago that needs some freshening up, and we've got to add our own personal touches
Originally a 360, but now has a mildly built '98 Mustang 302 (yay, fuel injection!) ahead of an A4OD transmission. Crown Vic front end and 8.8 disc brake rear with sway bars at both ends. It appears everything works, and it even came with about half a bed full of assorted parts including a much-needed AC setup!
Right rear cab corner has a little cancer, and there are several spots bubbling up in the paint, so some body work and a repaint is definitely in order, as are some new wheels at some point.

Robert, a lot of what we wanted to do to one has already been done (PS, PB, 4 wheel discs, etc), so there won't be a ton of wrenching needed. The biggest thing will be dealing with many spots of rust that are bubbling up under the paint. Fortunately, underneath it looks outstanding except for a small bit of cancer at the right rear cab corner

We do plan to add AC, get the proper grill inserts, debating on putting on a dash pad or not (currently just has the bare dash painted in the silver color which, as I discovered today, gives quite a glare at certain times of the day), maybe swap in a F600 or aftermarket gauge cluster, and at some point I'll probably pull the seat & carpet (both new) and add some Dynamat underneath.

Outside of that, there's small items to address, as there always are on old vehicles. And we're starting to figure out various detail items to do to make it "ours"

Keep us in the loop, even little projects always have some good stuff in them.

I can see how a silver dash without pad might not exactly be the hot ticket! :D
