My AC Unit- What do you think?

Post by mrtleavitt »

So I've decided to go with an aftermarket AC unit. So that means this original factory unit can go. I was wondering what kind of condition you'd consider this to be and how much I might be able to get out of it. I think it is in superb condition compared to the others I've seen but want all of your votes.
It came from a 1971 F250. I grabbed everything from the truck as you can see from the pics. The AC unit spins freely but I mainly got it and the lines just to have for reference to buy new ones. All the lines were sealed without leaks when I took it apart but I was planning on replacing them anyways. All of the slides open and close perfectly.

it looks in very good shape to me. as far as price. they are hard to sell. because of shipping for anyone who would want one.

That's what I was thinking. I'm going to try to sell it locally first but it would be tough to sell on ebay with anything besides "local pick up only".

I did the same.. went with an aftermarket. My old unit is up in the attic and that is a far as i could take it.

I did use the condesor and the pump mount for my new one.

So what after market one did you go with??

That A/C is clean and looks to be in good condition, mine the rubber boot going to the side panel has split and cant find a replacement, Looks to me to be for a 70 or later year truck because of the woodgrain and vents. mines a 69 unit and the vent are different and dosent have the woodgrain on the face, i would think you should be able to get $400 from it and that would be a deal.

if you figure out how to squeeze that thing back under the dash let me know. I have my a/c apart and am having trouble getting it back in place. I would greatly appreciate the help.

i trolls back under the dash because of the piping for the heater core and drain. you have to try and put the rubber hose for the drain through the hole as it is going back under.

It must be a two man job. I have the hoses hooked up but I cant seem to get it manuevered under the bolt holes in the dash. I may have the heater hoses on the wrong sides. Does any one have a picture of what they should look like?

The heater hoses should each have two 90 degree bends.

The hose with the shorter length between the bends connects to the core on the tube closest to the driver's side and exits the cab through the hole closest to the passenger side.

The longer hose connects to the tube closest to the passenger side and goes through the firewall hole closest to the driver's side.

If you've replaced the hoses and haven't used either preformed hose or some of the plastic "benders" that Ford specified, you're probably not going to get things to work properly.

Don't ask me how I know...
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

I bought the same unit this weekend, yours is in way better condition though. I'm missing the controls and hoses were cut, but I only gave like $68.00 for it and a COMPLETE wiring harness. To bad I'm a thousand miles away, I'd pay a pretty penny for yours and keep/sell mine.. THANKS for the photos, gives me a clear image of what I'm missing..
