Did I Do Good?...Steering Column Qs...
Alright, so I'm going to be swapping in an automatic tranny when I swap engines this summer, so today I went to the junkyard to get an automatic column and shift linkage. There were no bumpsides with auto columns in the yard, but plenty of dentsides to be found, so I got what I could.
What I found was a 74 F-100 with manual steering and an automatic. The shifter/shift tube felt nice and tight when I worked the linkage (not sloppy going into Park, like most of the dentsides I've seen), so I grabbed this column.
Did I do OK? My truck is manual steering, as was this donor truck. I just want to make sure this column is going to work in my truck before I take it apart to rebuild and paint it? My truck is a 72 F-100, currently 3 on the tree.
Now, I have some questions:
-Are the rebuild parts for this column going to be the same as those for a bumpside column? Just by looking at it, it looks exactly like a bumpside column (except for the hazard switch).
-Anyone know a source for the detent layout panel (the clear plastic part with the shift pattern printed on it), and a new pointer for it?
-Also, a new grommet for the shifter? (where the selector goes into the column)
Thanks guys
Nick
P.S. Anyone know how to convert the wiring in this thing to bump spec?

Lg.Yellow/green dots --Horn this one was also the same color between the two colums.
